Project 270 - New Jersey
I participated in Project 270 for one main reason. I thought it was important that we as American citizens understood the sacrifices our ancestors made for us to vote. In the past, African Americans and white women fought vehemently for political representation. Since I joined Project 270, my mother, Barbara Omolade, passed. She was a member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee during the ’60s and helped poor people in the South register to vote. She instilled a sense of understanding history and the constant need to demand equality. It is my honor and duty to participate in her voting-drive tradition.
