“The vote is precious. It is the most powerful non-violent tool we have in a democratic society, and we must use it. And so you must go out all across America and tell young people, and people not so young, tell all of us: Vote. The vote is powerful.” —Congressman John LewisVoting is the foundational building block of American democracy. Two-thirds of the eligible voting public cast a vote in the 2020 presidential election; of this number, approximately half (50%) of eligible voters ages 18–29 turned out at the polls. While this represents an impressive 11% increase over the 2016 presidential election, it still means that 26,400,000 young people did not show up to vote.Mana Public Arts launched Project 270 in 2020 with the goal of reaching voters under the age of 30 on their own terms. To do this, we joined forces with 70 leading emerging and established street artists to design GOTV posters representing all 50 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and over a dozen major metropolitan areas across the country. Through wheat pasting, giveaways, and collaborations with grassroots voting organizations, thousands of posters were distributed and displayed in major metropolitan areas. We aim to move the needle even further in 2024 by engaging with young voters in swing states and underserved communities nationwide. The 2024 edition of Project 270 will include:
New original GOTV posters designed by dynamic, internationally renowned artists.
The Fine Art Limited Editions of each new poster will be available for purchase with proceeds from sales directly fueling Project 270’s endeavors.
A wide-ranging digital campaign including free downloads of new and archival posters.
Partnerships with local, grassroots GOTV organizations across the nation.
Poster giveaway events to distribute over tens of thousands of wheat paste posters.
Onsite GOTV activations where people can register to vote.
Every citizen has a responsibility to vote and a duty to get others to do the same. Let’s make this voter turnout the largest our nation has ever seen!
