Mauricio Ramirez
Mauricio Ramirez is a Milwaukee-based artist and muralist. Whether negotiating the identities of clients or corporations, or the intimacies of cultural characteristics within neighbor- hoods, Ramirez is acutely aware that art in the public space permeates the subconscious.
His rich kaleidoscopic works explore historical and popular culture references that speak to the complex diaspora of Latinos living in the United States. To that end, Ramirez brings visibility to cultures that lead to growing internal confidence as well as external compassion and care from the surrounding communities.
Project 270 - Wisconsin
Throughout history, and especially in recent years, there has been a constant need to discuss the crucial subject of what an equitable future looks like. Some envision this as an uprising, a direct and at times confrontational response to injustice; others envision long and drawn-out planning for change that is both intensely incremental and monumental, at once. As an artist, I hope to lead by example, by creating images that not only remind communities of their strengths but inspire them to enhance their own cultural beauty that is both embedded in the past and the future.
