Phil Demise Smith
Phil Demise Smith is a poet, musician, artist, and teacher. He’s the editor/publisher of Gegenschein Press and was owner/producer of the New York City performance loft the Gegenschein Vaudeville Placenter from 1976 to 1978. He has been published in numerous small press magazines and has had many chapbooks published, including What I Don’t Know for Sure (Burning Deck, 1978), Periods, Selected Writings 1972–1987 (Gegenschein, 1988), and The History of Pre-diction (Gegenschein, 2011). He has written/per- formed his own songs since 1975, and with his most recent band, AnDna, he produced a vinyl album, Growing in the Dark, released in 2021. Smith has had numerous one-per- son and group art shows, including at the Musée Création Franche in Bégles, France. His paintings are in many private and museum collections. He also taught expression art(poetryandpainting)inNewYorkpublicschoolsfor seventeen years.
